Women of a Certain Age present "The Artist Revealed" 2012 Calendar
In 2011 twelve women artists, all over 49 years of age, came together to talk about how women's feelings change over the years as a result of age, childbearing, or illness.
"The Artist Revealed" 2012 limited edition calendar is an extension of those conversations, seeking to illustrate how mature women artists live out their passion for art.
The limited edition calendar is being offered for sale by Women of a Certain Age (all Stutz Artists Association members) with 40% of the net proceeds benefiting the Pink Ribbon Connection, a local organization supporting women with breast cancer.
The creative process began with each artist being photographed nude or semi-nude. This photo was incorporated into an original work by the artist, thus creating a new piece. The artist and the work became one. The twelve resulting images are representations of the artists "in their own skin" yet "clothed in their art."
In discussing the process, Leigh Dunnington-Jones remarked, "We learned that however we feel about the skin we're in, our bodies are vessels that hold all that we are, but are not who we are."
There will be a calendar release party and signing on Thursday, October 6, in the STUTZARTSPACE, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Pre-paid calendars will be available for pickup at that time. Click here to order.
The Artist Revealed 2012 calendar is just one of the special offerings at the STUTZARTSPACE in October, 2011. Other events include:
- STUTZARTSPACE gallery exhibition, "Women of a Certain Age: In the Skin We're In" which opens Friday, October 7, 2011. There will be an opening reception between 5:00 and 9:00 pm. Event is free.
- A lecture and panel discussion, Skirting the Issue: Stories of Indiana's Historical Women Artists, led by co-authors Judy Newton and Carol Weiss. This free event will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 14, 2011 at the STUTZARTSPACE. Following the talk, Judy and Carol will facilitate a discussion with contemporary women artists regarding their ongoing concerns.
- A closing reception at the STUTZARTSPACE on October 28, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm featuring a presentation by Leigh Dunnington-Jones entitled "From Hoops and Stays to Spandex and Spanx." This is an entertaining romp through a hundred years or so of amazing engineering dedicated to the artificial re-sculpting of the female figure according to social ideals. Event is free.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and 40% of the net proceeds from calendar sales and 20% of gallery exhibition sales are being donated to the Pink Ribbon Connection. Read more about the Pink Ribbon Connection below.

Best of all, each woman is matched up with a"'big sister" who can not only share her scars, both internal and external, but also link arms with her and journey together.
